Family Friendly Activities within 15 minutes of Tenby
Pembrokeshire is a fantastic place to bring the family all year round. There are lots of beaches to choose from and plenty of coastal walks to explore - however, sometimes when you have a family, that's not enough to keep them entertained. Here are our 10 suggestions of things to do within walking distance and within a 15 minute drive of the hotel in Tenby:
1. Tudor Merchant's House
(7 minute walk)
Run by the National Trust, the three-storey house has been transformed back to the way it may have looked in 1500, how it looked back in Tenby's hey day. Discover the merchant's shop and working kitchen on the ground floor. The first-floor hall is newly transformed for this year with colourful wall hangings and replica Tudor furniture.
2. Caldey Island Boat Trip
(Approx 10 minute walk to Tenby Harbour)
Spend the day exploring the historic Old Priory and medieval chires or join a free guided walk to look into the island's heritage. The kids are likely to be most interested the 'Chocolate making room' where the Abbots Kitchen Chocolate bars are hand-made! A fleet of boats runs to the island from Tenby Harbour from Easter to October.
3. Indoor Climbing Wall at The Overhang Tenby
(Approx 10 minute walk to Castle Beach)
Open all year round, Tenby's indoor climbing centre where the kids and grown ups can have fun! The centre offers instructor led sessions both on the wall and out on some of the coastal cliffs. If you've not tried climbing before, sign up for a 60 minute taster sessions where the instructors will teach you a few basic but essential climbing skills (suitable for age 6+)
4. Heatherton World of Activities
(9 minute drive)
Open all year round! No admission costs - only pay when you play! Plenty to offer for the kids AND the big kids in the family too! Bumper boats, high speed go-karting, kids land rover experience, body zorbs, water wars, paintballing and loads more! Or if you're feeling adventurous you could try their Tree Tops Adventure Trail!
5. Manor House Wildlife Park
(9 minute drive)
Set in 52 acres of Pembrokeshire parkland there is plenty of exotic animals for the kids to discover with daily talks and feeds with the meerkats and lemurs and lots more. Meet Zuberi, Zamba and Jambo, Southern White Rhinos, the first in Wales for 40,000 years!
6. The Dinosaur Park
(9 minute drive)
This park is not just for dinosaur fans! The park has so much to offer for all ages! Discover the fun on the dinosaur trail, enjoy the outdoors with the skiddy cars, disco boat, Tubey ride (plus so much more) or for a rainy day utilise the indoor play den with soft play and adventure playground. Pay once and all manned rides are free!
7. Reptile Experience
(11 minute drive)
The Reptile Experience is an exciting, hands on interactive reptile education centre based in the neighbouring village of Saundersfoot. This popular attraction brings the exotic life of the rainforest and desert to people of all ages.
Get hands on with lizards, snakes, frogs, tortoises, spiders and more. Handle, feed and learn about these amazing creatures. An ideal all weather attraction for the family.
8. Carew Karting
(12 minute drive)
Open in all weather and even great in the rain too! Pembrokeshire's outdoor karting centre provides the ultimate karting experience for both novice and experienced drivers. Junior karts (suitable for kids from 8 years min 1.35m height and plus the thunder karts for the adults (the fastest karts you can hire 13hp/390cc). Open every Wednesday through to Sunday 10 am – 6 pm. Please call to check availability before travelling to avoid clashing with group events. Times may be subject to change at short notice.
9. Folly Farm
(15 minute drive)
With over 750 animals at the zoo, the indoor Jolly Barn & Farm, indoor adventure play area, vintage funfair, Follystone race track and Pirate Adventure Outdoor Play this really is more than just a farm. Fun for all ages with lots to do indoors if it's a rainy day too! Check opening times on the website New for 2019: Asian Adventure where East meets West!
10. Battlefield Live Pembrokeshire
(approx. 15 minute drive)
Outdoor laser combat uses infra-red light (like your tv remote) and can reach targets of up to 150m away. Ideal for the competitive families out there! If you want to get the family dressed up in all the camouflage gear with matching face paint and stalk through the jungle-like battlefield armed with a gun (a laser one that is!) then this is the place to go in Pembrokeshire! Minimum age 7 years. Minimum height 1.1m
