On Saturday 31^st March 2012 we held the wedding reception of Vicki and Dan. I’d not met the couple for this wedding as Malcolm had liaised with them on their preparations which had a great daffodil and welsh theme and some great ideas for favours, place names and the cake too!

The couple had chosen our yellow organza bows for the chairs along with the yellow theme to be carried onto the buffet table for the evening. All of the flowers were daffodils and each table was named after different types of Daffodil.

The Bride and her attendants left for the Church from the hotel.  Top Class Cars did the honours and I have to say the cars looked great parked outside of the hotel!!

We had 66 guests for the wedding reception who on arrival received their welcome drinks plus 2 pieces of Bara Brith and 2 Welsh Cakes cut into heart shapes on a piece of welsh Slate…  a lovely welsh theme!

The Dining room looked great even if I do say so myself! The Yellow bows on the chairs and the daffodils complemented the bridesmaids yellow chiffon gowns.

As favours the couple had decided on Help for Heroes milk chocolate bars, which had each persons name on it so doubled up as a place card too, each with a little daffodil on it.  A great idea!

The Cake was 4 tiers high and the brides mum told me the cake had 4 different flavours.  The bottom layer chocolate, followed by Victoria sponge, Lemon cake and the top tier was carrot cake. And yet again a great idea!  All decorated in daffodils. Dec o Cake did a great job as usual.

After the guests sat down to a five course meal which included a fish course and not forgetting the Welsh Lamb, everyone moved onto party in the bar while the bride and groom headed to the beach with Photographer David Purslow for a few more pictures to finish off the day.  You really should visit David’s blog for more pictures as they are truly beautiful!

With the party buffet until the small hours, the couple enjoyed their first dance together to “Florence and the Machine” which all guest enjoyed watching.

Tuesday 27^th March 2012 saw us hosting our smallest wedding yet! We held the civil ceremony of Sandra and Rob at the hotel who wanted to get married quietly, no guests, just Malcolm and Patrick (the Hotel owners) to be the witnesses for the ceremony!

From the moment I woke up that morning the sun was shinning, I knew it would be a great day for them!

I’d met Sandra and Rob once before while they were planning their wedding day to make the preparations and make sure everything was ready for their big day.  The colour was chosen (pale pink), there were to be the two pedestals for the ceremony room and everything was sorted.

The room was arranged for their wedding ceremony with Ivory Chair covers and pale pink bows plus two pedestals arranged by our gardener / florist Simon, which had pale pink roses in them to keep with the colour scheme.

The couple had brought a wedding cake with them. As you cannot have any food or drink in a room before or during where a civil ceremony is taking place I waited outside until it was all over so that the cake could be put into the room for the all important cutting of the cake.  From what I could hear and see it was a lovely intimate ceremony.

Stepaside Photos were there to capture all of the important moments of their special day to show their family and friends when they return home!

As they were eating with the other hotel guests that night we dressed their table with chair covers and chair bows, pale pink napkins and also put a cake table with their cake on it next to them.  They had a beautiful view of South beach from the window for both the Civil Ceremony and the Meal later that evening.

With the first wedding of 2012 been and gone I thought I’d share the event to give you an insight of the preparation that goes into making weddings at the hotel go as smoothly as possible.

Final preparations for the wedding started the week before the big day as I met with Paul and Katrina to finalise the fine detail checking, double checking and triple checking all aspects from the right colours for the day, times and finalising numbers. This way everything would be perfect for when the guests arrived with no last minute running around.

Paul & Katrina came across as a relaxed, calm and very happy couple! Just what I like to keep me feeling at ease for the big day!

The bulk of the preparation started on Friday the 13th… unlucky for some, but for us at the hotel no problems at all! Just a whole lot of ironing of the chair bows and table runners for the team and laying up the dining room with the ivory banquet clothes.

Early start for me on the big day (couldn’t sleep) as I wanted to get everything done as best I can for the lucky Bride & Groom. Don’t know who was more nervous… them or me!???

The hotel had a great buzz in the morning with Simon doing the flower arrangements for the tables & pedestals for the ceremony room, Tracy from Floatation’s Balloons with the balloons Katrina and Paul chose as part of their wedding package and me finishing putting the last chair bows and pinning the bows to the buffet table! And then finally the 3 tier off set cake stand, wrapped in a piece of satin in their colour around the cake stand and with their very unique cake topper in the top tier! I loved it!

Before we could blink the guests started arriving along with Paul who looked a little nervous but was wearing a lovely wedding suit which matched the colour scheme of the day along with his best man, it was all starting to fit together.

11am saw the arrival of Katrina the bride… on time too! (Phew!) She looked amazing in her Ivory gown. Her Bridesmaid looked fantastic along with flower girl, Grace and Page Boy, William (Katrina and Paul’s children)

After finishing laying the dining room up and replacing the chairs and bows after the ceremony my job role changed to waitress for a few hours!

The wedding breakfast went smoothly and all guests happy! Before I could finally relax we had to get the evening buffet set up downstairs! As soon as everyone had a plate of food the DJ announced the first dance for Mr and Mrs Russell.

It was a beautiful moment for everyone there, for me it was the end of a perfect day for my first wedding of 2012 at the hotel.

Katrina then surprised me by changing into a new gown for the rest of the evening reception. She looked great!

9.00pm saw me clocking off but what a fantastic day it turned out to be!

It was a lovely day for many reasons…

Katrina and Paul have become Man and Wife after 9 years together.
My first official wedding as Wedding Coordinator at the Giltar Hotel and it had been a beautiful day outside (although a little cold).
